1993 – Installation
A three-day ‘action’ piece which incorporated the forms and characteristics of sculpture and performance.
The materials used were bunting (plastic strips with bright colors on them to act as a warning or sign for the public) and an already – standing billboard which was put up by the city of Cologne to announce the construction of a new building complex.
The purpose of the piece was to alter the meaning of the billboard by turning the backside of it into art. By turning the inverted and anonymous side of the billboard (that is non-commercial) into sculpture, both sides were given a significance and meaning that were in conflict with each other. On another level, the coincidence of this structure at the very end of a residential street, is a ‘warning’ of changes yet to come.
